Richard Reyes holds that anyone can attain financial freedom as long as they are coachable with a willingness to learn. Having been raised by a single mother in The Bronx, New York, watching her struggle to pay bills and feed her two kids, Richard knew from an early age that he would have to pitch in to keep their family together. He says that this realization is what drove him to ask for a job from the owner of the local pizza parlour at the age of 13. The owner, Tony, paid him $2 per hour to hand out fliers on the weekends.

Richard went on to stock shelves at a Deli and later worked at Eckered (now CVS) unloading their delivery trucks while attending high school. He would work to help his mother cover the rent month to month. Often, even with his help rent would be short when on the first of the month. It was a common occurrence to watch the landlord threaten his mother when rent was late. Out of desperation to help his mother he would use chunks of his savings to cover the missing parts of the rent.

During the summer of 2008, his mother kicked him and his sister out of the house because they could no longer afford the rent. His sister moved overseas to live with their dad, while he moved to Long Island NY to attend college. While attending Suffolk County College, he lived mainly from his car due to 12-hour shifts at work and a full-time college schedule. Eventually he graduated with his associates and was accepted into CUNY Baruch College. After getting accepted into Baruch College, his mother suggested he move in with her to reduce his 2 hour commute to school. The condition was that he’d pay a percentage of the rent. While attending Baruch Richard took the night shift as a security guard in time square. One year into moving in with his mom, history repeated itself when his share of rent was increased and he was unable to pay it.

His mother kicked him out again on October of 2013 at 2AM. Only one friend at the time, Lily Quinn, was kind enough to let him stay at her place, where he ended up staying for five months. He confesses that though his experience was humbling, it fuelled his unwavering determination to work his way out of poverty, and never be financially dependent again.

Although he completed his second college degree and started his career in the financial industry as a financial advisor, Richard says that he always had the mind for entrepreneurship. His passion was in helping others develop financial literacy in hopes they would never have to go through the same experiences he did. He started helping his friends and family with how to increase their credit score, trade stocks, and the power of compounding interest. A friend had introduced him to the world of e-commerce, and he quickly realized this was the fastest way for someone to build financial independence he had ever seen. It was faster than real estate, faster than stocks and any other traditional investment vehicle. He’s been educating investors on best practices for e-commerce automation ever since. Now he’s established a system of automated e-commerce platforms that generate in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per month in passive income.

Richard's company Project Hope, is aimed at helping shorten the learning curve to attain financial Independence. They have helped dozens of clients eliminate debt, rebuild their credit score and generate multiple streams of passive income. They have a team of accountants, investors, brokers, and entrepreneurs to enlighten the youth on financial literacy and cash flow management. His company also helps clients invest in real estate, e-commerce, Forex, and various other businesses, so that they may increase their streams of income as well as their financial IQ, ultimately guiding them to achieving financial freedom in a shorter period of time.

He discloses that he has always been a giver throughout his life. Since he was little, he was the one to cheer people up, to pacify warring parties, and he’s not changed a bit. He says that one piece of advice he’d tell his younger self is to give more, without ever expecting anything in return.

Richard Reyes, now a father of two, admits his impoverished past combined with anticipation for the future motivates him to work hard. Till this day he continues to pursue further education in the arts of finance as he aims to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER before the end of the year. He says that his philosophy can be reduced to four P’s: Produce a family, Provide for your family, protect your family, and prepare your family.
